Main benefits

  • Pattern Identification: Traditionally used for the TCM pattern of Qi and Blood deficiency of the Heart accompanied by Heart Yang deficiency, characterized by palpitations, a knotted or intermittent (irregular) pulse, shortness of breath, fatigue, insomnia, and occasionally a dry mouth or dry stools.

  • Core Function: The formula is classically said to strongly nourish Heart Qi and Blood, enrich Yin, gently warm Heart Yang, and restore a normal pulse and heart rhythm.

  • Yin-Blood and Yang-Qi Relationship: Based on the TCM principle that the Heart requires both material substance (Yin/Blood) to fill the vessels and energetic warmth (Yang/Qi) to pump effectively, the formula profoundly nourishes the depleted substance of the Heart while providing gentle warmth to keep the newly generated Blood circulating.

  • Key Ingredients: Zhi Gan Cao (Honey-fried Licorice) and Ren Shen (Ginseng) strongly boost Heart and Spleen Qi to provide motive force; Sheng Di Huang (Raw Rehmannia), E Jiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin), Mai Men Dong (Ophiopogon), and Huo Ma Ren (Hemp Seed) deeply nourish Heart Yin and Blood to refill the vessels; Gui Zhi (Cinnamon Twig) and Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger) gently warm Heart Yang and unblock the vessels; and Da Zao (Jujube) supports the Spleen to continuously produce Blood.

  • Cardiovascular Component (TCM): Widely renowned for treating functional cardiac arrhythmias and severe palpitations (where the heart feels like it is skipping beats or fluttering) resulting from exhaustion, severe illness, or chronic depletion of vital energy.

  • Region of Action: Primarily targets the Heart and its associated vessels, the Spleen (as the source of Blood generation), and secondarily the Lungs (to address concurrent dryness or shortness of breath).

  • Classical Heritage: First recorded in the Han-dynasty classic Shang Han Lun (Treatise on Cold Damage) by Zhang Zhong-Jing, it is the quintessential classical formula for treating irregular pulse and palpitations due to profound deficiency.

Zhenatura Zhi Gan Cao Tang Extra Strong is based on the classical Zhi Gan Cao Tang (“Honey-Fried Licorice Decoction”), first recorded in the Han-dynasty medical text Shang Han Lun (“Treatise on Cold Damage”) by the renowned physician Zhang Zhong-jing. Within traditional Chinese herbal literature, this specific combination of botanicals and traditional ingredients—including Honey-prepared Licorice Root, Fresh Ginger, Cinnamon Twig, Ginseng Root, Rehmannia Root, Donkey-hide Gelatin, Ophiopogon Root, Hemp Seed, and Jujube—was described as a method to “nourish Qi and Blood,” “nourish Yin,” and “restore the pulse” in accordance with the TCM theoretical framework. These descriptions belong exclusively to the traditional conceptual system of Chinese medicine and do not refer to modern anatomy, psychology, or scientifically validated physiological effects.Zhenatura Zhi Gan Cao Tang Extra Strong is based on the classical Zhi Gan Cao Tang (“Honey-Fried Licorice Decoction”), first recorded in the Han-dynasty medical text Shang Han Lun (“Treatise on Cold Damage”) by the renowned physician Zhang Zhong-jing.
